The next morning after I found out about my things my house flooded up to about a foot. It could have been way worse. We were able to move all of our belongings upstairs and nothing was ruined in my house. I wish I could say the same thing for my neighbors. A lot of people lost a lot of things and some lives were also lost. After a week the water left and I was able to move back home.

The next big event was my roommate moving out. Now I am living on my own. It can be lonely but I hope to have a new roommate soon.

Finally, I made a trip up north this last weekend and while there I think I ate something bad and I got really sick. This wouldn’t have been such a bad thing if I wasn’t supposed to go on an airplane today to visit a team in the south. This trip was supposed to help me decide if God wants me to work with this team in the future. It was pretty disappointing not being able to go. I still just feel really weak. There is time to go another time. I just hate missing out on things and wasting a plane ticket.

Anyways the reason I share my disappointments is not so you can feel bad for me. I know that life is full of disappointments and some of you who are reading this have been through things I could never understand. I just think God uses disappointments to help us long for him and to long for eternity we will spend with him. I still am so thankful to be in Thailand. I have so much peace in being here and couldn’t imagine being anywhere else. Although I miss my friends and family very much, I know this is right, this is His plan for me…and in His plan there will be no disappointments for eternity!
ChriStinehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18251973711332223884noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-333186466017477770.post-59643569746269853472010-10-05T02:06:00.000-07:002010-10-05T02:06:32.202-07:00Grandmas are the same where ever you go.So in moving to Thailand...most things are different here. The food is different, the customs are different...even how they celebrate birthdays are different. The one thing that is the same is...Grandmas...

I love my grandma. Growing up my grandparents lived just right around the corner from my house. My grandma would come over all the time. She would always put my brother and I to work in the yard or help clean out one of my dad's rental houses. You couldn't argue with Grandma because she was the one who worked harder than anyone else. Even today she is 90 years old and still she works on her own yard, picks fruit from my parents' yard and does my dad's work laundry because she knows we would take it to the dry cleaners and that is expensive! She also worries a lot about me being so far away.

So moving to Thailand I thought I left my grandma behind...little did I know that my grandma and my neighbor's grandma are pretty much the same person. My neighbors sell soy milk in town so their mom/ the neighbor kids' grandma wakes up at 3am to help get ready for the days work. She seems to always be doing something productive when I get home. She puts me to shame just like my real grandma! She also is worried about me...she got mad at me the other day when I forgot to close my gate one night when my roommate was away. Also on the mornings when I leave for class later because my class is later in the day...she smiles really big and asks me "What time did you wake up this morning?" I have to side step her question because I can't tell her 9am when she has been up since 3! Today she made me move some of our laundry hanging in the front yard because she was afraid it would rain.

So in conclusion: When everything seems so different I can rest assured that grandmas will always be the same no matter where I go!

Miss you Grandma!!ChriStinehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18251973711332223884noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-333186466017477770.post-38808509006634457432010-08-18T09:11:00.000-07:002010-08-18T09:11:16.158-07:0015 seconds of my ride to school yesterday in slow motion detail:This is what happened in just about 15 seconds or so on my uneventful ride to school on my little yellow bike: I was riding my bike to school with the traffic going into the city. I had two lanes of traffic on my right staying in the slow lane, where there were cars parked. Sometimes I have to go through small gaps between the parked cars and the traffic avoiding the parked car doors opening randomly. I was doing this when a motorbike decided to drive on the wrong side of the road (not uncommon) towards me in this little gap. So we both slowed down to avoid hitting each other and to figure out how to maneuver around each other without going out into the traffic. While this was happening in that same moment a little dog ran up barking and it seemed he was trying to bite my foot off. I yelled at the dog, went around the motorbike and continued... Thinking hmmm it looks like it might rain.. Like nothing just happened. Just another 15 seconds of the life here in Thailand. ChriStinehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18251973711332223884noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-333186466017477770.post-23335660509262707322010-08-10T07:37:00.000-07:002010-08-10T07:37:32.352-07:00Blessed in 21 + ways here in Thailand.Hi all,
I am now at the end of my first week of language school and I just want you to know how blessed I am. Its ridiculous. I so so so soooo do not deserve the following blessing from the Lord:
1. Salvation---still in awe of God's continued work in my life.
2. Your support and love
3. The ability to live in Thailand
4. The friends I have here, at home and around the world.
5. The humble and wise leadership of OMF International.
6. My roommate.
7. A flushing toliet!!!!
8. The body of Christ all over the world!!!!!
9. A year set aside to focus on learning the heart language of the Thai people!!
10. Multiple delicious coffee shops!!
11. Freedom!!! Freedom to worship in Thailand and a visa (soon to be getting) that states my purpose is to share the word of God with those who want to know and to work with Christians in Thailand.
12. My Health and the health of my family and their love and support.
13. A loving and supportive Home Ministry Team
14. Cornerstone Church and the rest of the body of Christ.
15. Each breath as God continues to give me them.
16. No dogs or monkeys have yet to attack me!
17. My sweet yellow bike.
18. Humor and laughter.
19. Friendly Thai neighbors.
20. GRACE, GRACE, GRACE
21. FORGIVENESS from the Father as I have offended Him too many times to count.

And the best part is the reason why we are blessed as Christians and its not because we are "good people" no one is good but God alone...it's because of His Son's sacrifice, His love and His call for us to be a blessing to others. Lets not forget God's greatest commandments: Love God, Love People.ChriStinehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18251973711332223884noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-333186466017477770.post-50417913982241646252010-07-15T04:31:00.000-07:002010-07-15T04:31:53.263-07:00Believing what you’re singing
So many times in church I have just sung the songs that were being sung because that is what everyone else was doing. It wasn’t that I didn’t believe the songs. I just didn’t always think about the meaning of what I was doing. It just can become something that you do at the beginning and end of the service. When I do think about the words I can have an amazing time of singing praises to God who deserves our praise. However, this should be at all times not just part of the time. I think if I am not singing for the glory of God I should just not be singing at all. Also, we need to be careful about what we are communicating to God. Older hymns tend to talk about the greatness of God and who He is. In the songs we sing today, the writers of the songs tend to make a lot of promises or bold statements to God within their songs. I think many people are making a big mistake by just singing along. I find this with a lot of Hillsong’s songs especially. Such as “Lead me to the Cross” Do we know what that means??? Do we mean it?? As a Christian, we should mean it BUT have we thought it through…about what we are committing to? Essentially I think this song is saying this to God: “God feel free to do whatever you want with me for the sake of the Gospel even it means we must die as Jesus died.” It’s a serious commitment. Something we should commit to but through prayer and serious thought. Another song that really struck me was another Hillsong song that has people singing enthusiastically “Take, take, take it all! Take, take, take it all!” I listened to this song a lot when I was in Atlanta caring for my brother after he became paralyzed. It made me think. Did I really understand what it meant to have everything taken for the sake of Christ? I couldn’t even understand why God took my brother’s ability to walk. I can’t even imagine the scene of God taking everything away. I do trust in God and do believe that God could “take it all” (all of this world) and I would still love him because he is everything we need. I just think we need to be careful to what we are saying and singing to an all-powerful all-knowing God of the universe.

More recent example if you fast-forward to now as I have just arrived in Singapore. I am having a similar experience with the song “More than enough”. It goes “All of you is more than enough for all of me, for every thirst and every need. You satisfy me with your love. In all I have in you is more than enough.” I cried at church before I left while singing this. Did I believe these words? God decided to move me out of the US and give me a completely new context do I believe that God is more than enough? For EVERY thirst? That God can satisfy me with HIS love? And that God is not just enough or good enough but that God is MORE than enough? The answer is yes HE is or else I would not be in Asia right now. Pray that He would continue to remind me of His truth and His love that is more than enough for me and He is more than enough for the billions in Asia!

I will do the same for you.
ChriStinehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18251973711332223884noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-333186466017477770.post-10823835557063912242010-06-30T05:48:00.000-07:002010-06-30T05:48:29.955-07:00Made it to Singapore! For those who have not gotten my email.
I fly to Singapore the early morning of June 28th and then head to Thailand July 24th. So crazy how fast it is coming up!

Lately I have been thinking about how I will be entering a new culture and how important it will be to have an attitude of a student. A student of Christ, the people, the culture, the Thai church and of older wiser missionaries. When Christ came to this earth he became the word in flesh, he is/was fully human and used human words, did human things why? so that people could have a relationship with him. If we as missionaries are going into another culture we need to become as much a part of that culture as we can. Why? So that people can have a relationship with us and in turn be introduced to Christ in a way they can understand. Not just changing a track from English to Thai but knowing how to minister to them in a way that make sense and is natural. NOTE TO SELF: Experiencing Jesus does not have to be done through Hillsong United songs, Piper, Francis or C.J. Mahaney sermons. It might be ways that I have experience Christ in this culture but its not the answer for every culture. I pray against my american (not biblical) understandings and baggage that I am inevitably bring with me to Thailand.

Please Join me!

PLEASE PRAY

1. That I would trust in the HOLY SPIRIT!

2. That I would LISTEN, LISTEN, LISTEN

1. That I would be a student of the Thai people and culture.

2. That God would humble me when I need it.

3. That I would share Christ in a way that the Thai people would understand.
ChriStinehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18251973711332223884noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-333186466017477770.post-28181430627239044902010-04-16T14:52:00.000-07:002010-04-16T14:52:36.057-07:00Remembering to PrayPrayer is so important. I have always said that prayer was important but for many years I did not act like I thought it was important. God continues to call us to prayer through His Spirit and His word. More recently I have been overwhelmed by the need for prayer and fasting. There is a crazy world out there with a very real enemy. God's people need to continue in this Spiritual battle through prayer.

Ephesians 6:10-20

I believe that the Holy Spirit will bring to mind things we should be praying for and will burden our hearts causing us to pray. I also believe that we live in a very distracting environment so we tend to ignore this call to prayer. So as we fight back against the world's pressure and continue to pray. There are ways to help us remember to pray. Such as Echo Prayer. it has been around for awhile but I have just been reminded of it.

I think echo prayer is genius. It is a website that will send you reminder texts or emails with different prayer requests. You can set up different times to send specific prayer reminders or set it to send you random prayer requests that you have previously entered.

So it can remind you to prayer for a missionary at a certain time of the day that they might feel spiritual attacks on a consistent basis or remind you to pray for specific events such as a neighbor's surgery that maybe taking place next week.

I would encourage you to check it out and/or follow the Holy Spirit's calling to pray: )
Romans 12:12 Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulations, be constant in prayer.
I cannot believe it! The time is going so fast, July is going to be here before we know it. God has been continuing to provide me with support, loving community members and new things to learn before I leave.

Recently, I have been hearing a lot about the political situation in Thailand. I just wanted to make you guys aware of what is going on. There have been huge fights and protests happening in Bangkok. There are two groups the red shirts and the yellow shirts. The yellow shirts are in favor of the current prime minister and the red shirts are in support of a past prime minister Thaksin. Thaksin was taken out of office by a past military coup from a few years ago. The red shirts are mostly people from the country areas and the yellow shirts are from Bangkok and other large cities. So recently, the red shirts have been protesting for the return of Thaksin. These protests are huge 50,000 to 60,000 people converging on Bangkok by from all over Thailand.

The protests are seen as mainly peaceful, but there is a deep underline spiritual battle happening during these protests. Thailand is a very spiritual place and even politics are effected. During one of the protests the red shirts burned down the "Spirit house" that is in front of the main government building in Bangkok. This is a big deal because the Thais believe all the spirits that control that building live in that "spirit house". Almost everyone has a Spirit house in front of their home and/or business. Here is an example: This is where the spirits live and they must be kept happy so that things on their property go well. I believe there is real power in these spirits and if they are upset these spirits will hurt the Thai people, that is if they do not have the power of Jesus Christ to overcome these spirits.

SO that was a shocking development within itself. The next part of their protest was even more deeply shocking and spiritual. The thousands and thousands of red shirts decided to draw their own blood and pour it out in front of the government steps. Blood is such a significantly powerful in many religions especially in Christianity. To think of the sacrifices throughout the old testament and today being Good Friday. Christ's blood was poured out saved the souls of many!!!

Here is a picture of the Thai blood being collected and poured out.

The blood of the Thais has some power to...they poured out a deeply demonic occultic power to try to control the Thai government.

Pray against this power and the very real spiritual warfare in Thailand.

Pray for the Thai Church that they would separate themselves from any left over demonic worship that might be still effecting their lives.

Pray for the missionaries that they will be able to preach about the power in the Blood of Christ and in CHRIST ALONE!!!
HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!ChriStinehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18251973711332223884noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-333186466017477770.post-56086530112545294832009-11-25T00:10:00.000-08:002009-11-25T00:10:09.572-08:00#2 REASON: Focusing more on prayer!Raising money right now is forcing me to be more in prayer than if all of my expenses were prayed for already. How sad is that? As believers, prayer is the basis for every ministry. Hudson Taylor, the founder of OMF, relied fully on God and took everything to Him in prayer. I am thankful OMF realizes the importance of prayer and continues to ingrain the need for personal prayer and the prayers of prayer partners. I find it unique that OMF members tell me…”Yes, the money will come in, but you need to be diligent in finding prayer partners that will really pray.” God is in control, we need to bring everything to Him. Please Please Please Pray with me!ChriStinehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18251973711332223884noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-333186466017477770.post-77771546510050132292009-11-24T08:21:00.000-08:002009-11-24T08:21:24.965-08:00#3 REASON: More people partnering at smaller amounts of money equals more accountability, more prayers, and a larger part of the body invested in reaching the nations!!!So right now a lot of people do not have an extra $50 or even $25 a month to give. So the solution is either pray and see if God wants you to sacrifice something to be able to give more or we should be praying for MORE PARTNERS giving at lower amounts. I have a list of people that receive my prayer updates and if everyone on that list gave $8 a month my expenses would be covered. That’s like taking me out to lunch once a month! And you know, that is a requirement in most of my friendships anyways. : ) So here are some plus for having more partners. More people invested gives me more motivation for me to be fruitful in ministry. I know the amount of people connected to the ministry. I will remember faces of those who are partnering with me and realize their investment along side of mine in His perfect plan. It will also hopefully remind people to pray for the ministry God is calling them to invest in. Praise God for his Body!ChriStinehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18251973711332223884noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-333186466017477770.post-20632638670068509142009-11-23T08:23:00.000-08:002009-11-23T08:23:10.264-08:00#4 Reason: Senders have to make more of a sacrifice to give then they would have in the pastPrevious years, people had more dispensable income, people could give to missionaries out of their wealth without even seeing the affects of their monthly giving. This is not a bad thing--giving to missionaries is ALWAYS a good thing--Don’t let me talk you out of it. But, this does remind me of one of Jesus’ teaching moments in Mark 12:41-44. In this passage, Jesus is at the temple watching people give their offerings. At the temple there were a group of the rich people who were giving large sums of money and a poor widow came to give all she had, a penny. Correct fund-raising would tell us to push past the widow and focus on the richest people. We want to focus on those able to give the most to God’s work. Right? Lets check in and see what Jesus told his disciples "Truly, I say to you, this poor widow has put in more than all those who are contributing to the offering box. For they all contributed out of their abundance, but she out of her poverty has put in everything she had, all she had to live on." Jesus saw the true faith of that widow. It’s not bad that the rich people were giving to the Lord, its not bad if rich people support me : ) BUT its when people give in FAITH that truly counts. It would be nice if a rich person just gave me all of the money and send me on my way BUT it would be a billion times better to work along side a team of faith-filled people giving and investing in God’s work in Thailand.ChriStinehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18251973711332223884noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-333186466017477770.post-57174112797118230152009-11-22T13:26:00.000-08:002009-11-22T13:30:11.954-08:00# 5 REASON WHY I'M THANKFUL: The recession causes the church to work less as a business and more as a body of believers.
Many churches today are run as businesses. This can be an effective way to organize a church. The church has a budget that people give to and from that budget the church is able to support ministries. That is all good and everything but right now people are broke equaling less money in the church’s budget. For example, my home church used to be able to give large amounts of money to missionaries out of their budget. Now is a different story. I heard from someone that my church is not going to be able to support me from their budget. So I did what I do best…I took this personally: I thought things like “They are not even going to support me. I thought they were my main sending church? Maybe I shouldn’t even go.” I was heartbroken because I put my trust in a missions budget.

Then a friend, without realizing it, changed my perspective. She said, “Cornerstone is really supporting you, huh?” I responded “What do you mean?” (while thinking exactly the opposite) She said “Well, I always hear about you at Cornerstone, like in the main service when Josh shared your story, or when I get the emails about community dinners, or the flyers for the garage sale.” That is when it clicked for me: It’s not a financial amount from a church’s budget that makes you supported by a church (that can be part of it)--- but its the love and support of the real church—the people that truly matters. I am thankful that the people of Cornerstone ARE my main sending church and I am thankful for the rest of the people sending me that are not a part of Cornerstone. It’s awesome to watch the Holy Spirit working through His people to make this ministry possible in Thailand.ChriStinehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18251973711332223884noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-333186466017477770.post-73096400674189506892009-11-08T17:48:00.000-08:002009-11-08T18:05:28.026-08:00The road to Thailand continues November 2009Welcome to my blog. This blogging stuff is a new adventure for me. As many of you know I have been raising support and preparing to move to Thailand for a while now. This blog is just the next step in better connecting with my partners in this ministry. I am so thankful for everyone who has been behind me so far with supporting, garage sales, prayers and just the love you have shown. I am continuing to pursue God's will in this journey and hopefully make it out to the field in the early part of 2010. Thailand is in need of workers so that is what I am going to continue to strive to get out there in the near future.

Prayer for this month:
1. That I would grow in a knowledge of Him so that I can better share his love.
2. That i would trust in God's perfect timing.
3. That God would raise up a monthly support team.
4. That God would be working in the hearts of those that will partner with me in prayer and finances. They are just as essential to the ministry as I will be.ChriStinehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18251973711332223884noreply@blogger.com0
